U.S. Interns in India

Filed under: Outsourcing — kaushik @ 3:40 pm

NYT has a nice story on the increasing number of American summer interns in Indian outsourcing companies. It is a bit of a puff piece and the actual percentage of such interns in India are likely to be quite low (although the Infosys internship has always been in high demand and seems to command a good premium on the job market in North America).

But it is still welcome news and great publicity. The article is currently ranked second in the most e-mailed articles page in NYT

Thanks for bringing this problem to our attention. This seems to be a problem with non-IE users. We’re working on this

  4. This was indeed a nice article. However, one of the things that is absolutely insane when it comes to indian policy is the process that a foreigner must go through in order to work here legally. There are numerous issues when it comes to forms, signatures, attestations, registration etc. As long as these archaic procedures are kept in place, the foreign brain-gain will remain insignificant.

I have had a chance to interact personally with quite a number Infosys employees and other interns here in India, and also through AIESEC, all of them gain a very positive image of work here, however a very biased one and I have doubts whether the knowledge they gain over a short period is useful, or is it a case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. People who stay here longer than 6 months though leave with an image and understanding that is superbly more than the rest.

  5. Not only americans are going to India for an internship… After my stay at IIMB as exchange student, I’m on my way back to your country to take part in an internship with AIESEC (mentioned above by Pranay)…

    Interesting blog. Keep writing!
