Send It Back!

Filed under: Business — Edward @ 6:51 pm

As a firm believer in the idea that - inside or outside the home, child or adult - you should always clean up your own mess, I have only one response to offer in the face of this news: send it back!

An asbestos-laden French warship en route for an Indian scrapyard will continue its journey pending a final Indian court ruling on allowing it into the country, France’s defence ministry said. An environmental panel at India’s Supreme Court on Friday accused France of violating the international Basel Convention on the transport of hazardous waste by sending the Clemenceau aircraft carrier to India for decontamination.

  1. Well i am sick of the leftist politics being played out in the name of environmnetalism.
The poor laborer, who regardless of wheather he wrecks ships or gets other jobs is NOT going to be in great health. This is a well known fact. Now by eliminating another source of employment(without improving indias environment a single bit) what did the indian environmnetal panel gain….nothing but self congradualtory pats on the back from each other.

  2. It is not just French. CBC Canada had a feature on this. How the Indian Companies breaking ship are basically ignoring all environmental and safety laws. People are getting killed every day doing the work. Every ship has lead, mercury and other dangerous chemicals. and Yes the documentary said that Rich countries are breaking International laws, but Indian government is absent in its duties.

  3. Do the claims by the Authorities at the Alang port of Gujarat with regards to adequate safety facilities being available, in order to break up such ships carrying toxic wastes, hold any water? How well are the Indian ports prepared in order to break up ships carrying such toxic wastes?
