Has anyone considered that that the ships have to pass a long way through LTTE's corridor in North-west Srilanka? We could put our national interests in jeopardy if LTTE is able to get good attacks on valuable cargo through that canal. Essentially it is an unsafe route.

For me environmental damage of the dredging through the corals and continental shelf looks a very problematic one too.

So, in every it is a stupid project that needs to be skuttled.

unfortunately this project is being judged with blinkered vision by our politicians.. if it goes through the hindu hardliners will claim it as loss of our "cultural heritage".. if it doesnt the DMK will merely continue to insist that Ram did not exist.. the economic viability and practicality of the project is lost on everyone concerned..
